Psalm 84

When times are stressful, we all like to retreat to our favourite haven of rest. For some, like Helen who comments on the link below, it’s a holiday home in the south of France, for others it’s a trip to the countryside and for others it’s relaxing after work in the favourite room of your home.

We all need times of rest and renewal. We give out so much to others and to our work. We need to draw in and recover the calm, stillness and well-being which renews our spirits.

Helen links this relaxation to resting in the presence of God. She explains how she finds this expressed in Psalm 84, which begins with the words, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty”.

Like Helen, I too have my favourite place to which I can retreat and find the wonderful presence of God. It’s almost like he’s waiting for me to meet him at a prearranged time and place.
